Stephen St. Amant was born in Penetanguishene, Canada in 1952. He works with clay to create beautiful functional pottery. He is the great grandson the well-known Canadian artist W.H. Sadd (1862-1954). He apprenticed with the award winning Master Potter Dominic Stanzione in 1979. Dominic was from Italy and oversaw the Pottery Studio of Blue Mountain Pottery starting in 1969. Since 2006 Stephen has been a member of Fusion: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association and has attended most of their annual educational conferences. He has been a regular participate in The Bay Studio Tour and is represented in the Quest Art Shop and Gallery. He first worked as a Therapist at Waypoint Center directing their Ceramic/Pottery Program but has since retired to become a full time potter starting his own business, Silver Birch Pottery. He is best known for his pottery mugs and from the fortunate ones that own one he often hears that they love it, they use it every day, and it is their favorite go to mug. Artist Statement (2020)

I create hand made functional pottery.  Recently I’ve been using proclaim clay on the potter’s wheel to create  pottery that engages the user into a deeper present moment experience.  Changes a  mundane daily activity to a ritual ceremonial event.
I am inspired by the fact that I can be held responsible for adding art to someone else’s daily life for their personal enjoyment. My art comes with a story.
